You don’t become a real estate agent if you don’t have dreams and goals. It’s not an industry that rewards those who fail to hustle. It won’t always be easy or fun, but these attitude adjustments can help you achieve more and feel better about your life. Sound good? Let’s get started.

Practice Gratitude

This attitude adjustment is deceptively easy. It’s not just about saying thank you. Take time during the day to feel grateful for the lessons, challenges, and abundance in your life. Researchers have found that practicing gratitude actually helps you make better decisions in the future!

Learn to Wait

Patience is not a fun virtue. It’s much more pleasant to get the reward now than to wait. But delayed gratification is a form of discipline that you need to master. You’ll have to work very hard in the early stages of your career and pay your dues. It’s also a good idea to invest in yourself—in education, professional development, and marketing, for example—so skip those impulse purchases and save your money instead.

It’s Not a Race

What do you do when someone else at your brokerage seems to have a gold touch while you’re struggling to reach your goals? Don’t compare yourself to them. Of course you want to feel like you’ve done well, but measure your success against your own scorecard, not someone else’s.

It’s a Journey

In fact, success isn’t a race at all but a journey. If you spend most of your energy hyper-focused on your end goals—opening your own brokerage, for example—you’ll miss out on a lot along the way. Satisfaction is a result of small, everyday victories more than crossing one big finish line.

Be More Confident

You know that saying, “fake it until you make it”? Well, it’s pretty much true. When you act confidently, you build your self-esteem and ability to make decisions. Confidence arises from taking action and moving forward.

Learn to Say No

You cannot have it all. I repeat, you cannot have it all. We all have 168 hours a week to accomplish everything we want to do. In order to devote as much time and energy as possible to the things that matter to you, you’ll have to say no to the things that don’t. If you find yourself getting roped in to obligations that aren’t a worthwhile use of your time, just say no.

Use Visualization

It sounds a little New Age-y, but visualization really does help. When you picture the concrete details of what your life would look like when you achieve your goals, it’s a powerful motivator. Imagine yourself in your office or at your home. What does your day look like? How do you feel? You could even create a vision board, either on paper or your computer, of images that represent your dreams.
