The front door to a home is one of the first things a potential buyer will see.
Before they lay eyes on the shiny new appliances, before they get to walk on the plush carpet, and before they start dreaming of the garden tub, they have to turn that doorknob first.
First impressions are really important. You want buyers to be able to see themselves walking through that door every day. Not to mention, they’re going to be standing at the door for a minute while they wait for their agent to unlock the door!
Let’s talk about great ways to freshen up a front entrance to make it feel bright and welcoming.
Adding Planters
This is an excellent way to bring life (literally!) to a home’s entrance. You should add two for symmetry because it’s pleasing to the eye and simple to arrange. This will also help direct a buyer’s eyes towards the front door.
Don’t use plastic containers that may look cheap, but instead spring for something like ceramic, terra-cotta, or wood, to add an extra boost of that wow factor.
Fill them with something bright and lively, but make sure to choose flowers that do well in partial shade if your front door doesn’t receive a lot of sunshine. Impatiens are great for a pop of color, or pansies if it’s fall or winter. Don’t be afraid to mix in some other complimentary plants to fill out the planter!
Roll Out the Welcome Mat
This is quite literally the easiest, most inexpensive thing you can do to make your front door more inviting. Welcome them with a fresh welcome mat! There are plenty of great options out there in a variety of stores, or even online.
Fresh Coat of Paint
Nothing will liven up your entrance like a fresh coat of paint on your front door. It’s simple enough that you can get it done in an afternoon, and it will definitely leave a lasting impression on potential buyers.
You can’t go wrong with classic colors, like black or grey, but you might want to step a little out of your comfort zone and pick something a little more bold. Try a cheery spring green, a bright yellow that’s reminiscent of sunshine, or a bold turquoise. Just make sure it goes well with the color of your home!
New House Numbers
If the house numbers haven’t been changed out in a long time (or ever!), they might need an update! There are plenty of options available at the local hardware store, and even more available online. It may seem like something relatively small, but it’s a detail that can really stand out to potential buyers, and they’ll remember it later.
Pressure Washing
No matter how clean the home is, there’s a certain amount of grime that comes from being outside that just won’t go away, no matter how hard you scrub. That’s when it’s time to call in a pressure washer! You’d be amazed at just how much dirt and grime builds up over time and isn’t noticed because we see it every day.
If you have a front stoop or a front porch, a good pressure washing is going to make it sparkle just like it did when it was brand new!
