There are two types of the people in this world–those who loved group projects in school, and those who would much rather work alone. Which one were you?

Improve Teamwork

When it comes to working in real estate, being a lone wolf isn’t an option. Brokerages, whether large or small, are based on effective teamwork. Here are our best tips to improve teamwork and turn your office into a well-oil, deal-closing machine!

Foster Communication

The foundation of effective teamwork is communication. If you can’t talk to each other and share information, then you’re not really part of a team at all. Different channels of communication lend themselves to different types of communication, and it’s essential that everyone understands how to use them.

If you need a quick answer to a question, an app such as Slack is your best bet. For longer messages where it might be useful to have a record of the exchange, stick to email. Communication about shared projects and planning is best on a shared workspace platform like Google Docs.

Level Up Your Meetings

Whose idea was it to have so many meetings? More often than not, they prove to be a burden on everyone’s schedule. Before scheduling a meeting, ask yourself if you could resolve the issue with an email or Slack group chat.

If the meeting is truly necessary, make sure you have an agenda in place–and a time limit. Meetings that drag on with no real purpose waste time and decrease motivation for the whole team.

Build on Each Other’s Strengths

Everyone on your team brings different strengths and skills to the table. Some real estate agents have an extra flair for graphic design or a passion for event planning. Others thrive on public speaking or enjoy the challenge of organizing and synthesizing data. Can you see how each of these agents might thrive when given the responsibility for a task that matches their strengths?

If you are a project manager, make it your aim to learn everyone’s strengths and figure out how they complement each other. If you’re a team member, volunteer to work on projects or tasks that match your unique skill set. You’ll be happier–and more effective–when you do!
