7 Must-Haves for Your Real Estate Website

A well-designed website is essential for any real estate agent. But you can’t just throw together a simple page and hope for the best! Like houses, there are certain features that will set your real estate website apart from the rest.

Branded Header

Keep your branding front and center with a branded header that appears at the top of every page. This should include your name and the words “real estate” or “Realtor” in large, easy-to-read letters. Including a headshot of yourself is a good idea, too, along with your logo.

Easy Contact Options

Don’t make the visitors search for your contact information. Make sure your phone number and email address are prominently displayed on every page. It’s also helpful to add a contact form widget to the sidebar or footer of your design.

Your Biography

The real estate business is all about trust, so make it easy for potential clients to get to know you. Include a bio page that lets them know your values as a real estate professional.

Local Information

This is a key must-have for your real estate website! Include a page or section with information about the area. A community calendar widget isn’t a bad idea, but at the very least you should offer updated information about restaurants, schools, attractions, and local happenings.

An Updated Blog

In addition to the local info above, you should maintain a regularly updated blog. Make sure that the content is customer-facing–you’re not writing for other agents, but for potential buyers and sellers!

Simple Search Tools

Visitors to your site should be able to browse your listings with ease. If this feature isn’t central to your design, then you will lose leads! Many successful agents incorporate their MLS listings with IDX, or “Internet Data Exchange.”

Calls to Action

A CTA can take many forms on your real estate website. A pop-up asking the visitor to join your mailing list (in other words, to capture their lead) is an easy way to do it. You might also offer visitors a free eBook download with an intriguing title. For example, “How to Sell Your House for More Money” might entice visitors to give you their information in exchange for the free guide.
